Lecures 6

Si tingués les robes brodades del cel,
teixides amb llum d’or i plata,
les robes blaves i grises i fosques del cel,
de la nit, del capvespres i de la llum,
m’agradaria estendre aquestes robes sota els teus peus:
Però, com que sóc pobre, nomes tinc els meus somnis;
he desplegat els meus somnis sota els teus peus;
trepitja suaument, perquè ho fas sobre els meus somnis.

W. B. Yeats

Poema de William B. Yeats citat en el llibre de John Irving, La dona difícil, traduït lliurement de l’original anglès. El poema original “Cloths of Heaven”, del llibre The Wind Among the Reeds (1899), diu: Had I the heaven’s embroidered cloths, / Enwrought with golden and silver light, / The blue and the dim and the dark cloths, / Of night and light and the half-light, / I would spread the cloths under your feet: / But I, being poor, have only my dreams; / I have spread my dreams under your feet; / Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
